You are invited to ‘take a walk on the wild side’ and join the The Elephant Foundation and the African Wildlife Foundation for their annual gala dinner which takes place during their annual Elephant Week. This year The Elephant Foundation is joining forces with the African Wildlife Foundation and representatives from the AWF, including their president, Kaddu Sebunya, will be joining the school visits during Elephant Week. School visits help raise awareness of the issues of poaching, human wildlife conflict and the effects of the ivory trade with its direct links to Hong Kong, as well as the realities of the trade in rhino horn. As with previous years, The Elephant Foundation will also be bringing Kenyan Maasai warrior Daniel Ole Sambu to Hong Kong. James Mwenda will also join the education programme and share his passion for rhinos and his experience caring for the last male Northern White Rhino (the late Sudan).
More about The Elephant Foundation
The main focus of The Elephant Foundation is to educate. They wish to bring the message of the importance of keeping animals on the African plains alive into the classrooms and boardrooms of Hong Kong. The Elephant Society organised their first Hong Kong Elephant Week in 2014. Since 2014 The Elephant Foundation has visited over 100 schools, presided over five gala dinners and arranged the adoptions of more than 400 orphaned elephants and rhinos in East Africa. They have donated over HK$1.4 Million to the organisations that they support on the ground in East Africa, in addition to running education programmes in Hong Kong. The guest speakers coming from Africa annually assist with their education weeks and also speak at the dinners.
