After hearing about the devastating Knysna fires in June 2017, the Southern African Association of Hong Kong decided to get the South African community together to do their part to help those in need.
An impromptu fundraiser event was organised on the 10th of June where members and other South Africans from all over Hong Kong got together and showed a true South African spirit of ubuntu. Thanks to a group of generous sponsors, a raffle was also started. The raffle ran for a month and the Association, with the help of extremely generous donations members and non-members, managed to raise HK$23 000.
Our raffle hamper sponsors included Hong Kong-based South African author, Celia Claase, Glow Spa, Hollywood Hair @ Glow Spa, Hollywood Hair 2, PLAYT at the Parklane Hong Kong, The Saffa, The South African Shop and Hong Kong-based South African artist Zagarias. Thanks to the FaB by Carla team, we also managed to get a grand prize for the raffle worth more than HK$20 000. This girls’ night at has been made possible by Carla Personal Styling, Exceptional Existence, Glow Spa and Hollywood Hair @ Glow Spa, Gosia Orlowska Jeunesse Global, Krystina Te Kanawa Global Make Up and Beauty Experts, Lavishoe, Pakt, Surj Bahra Personal and Professional Transformations and Winestar. The lucky draw was held on the 7th of July. Congratulations to the lucky winners of the hampers (worth HK$3000 and HK$2500 respectively), Patrizia Pettit and Cate Pietrobon, as well as Wayne Benn, winner of the grand prize.
The Southern African Association and the people of Knysna are extremely grateful to everyone who contributed to this worthy cause. Olga and Corrie Kruger from the SAAHK will be visiting Knysna in July 2017 to personally distribute the funds raised.
