The origin of #DrinkChenin Day
Born in France but thriving in South Africa, Chenin Blanc is arguably the most well-known white grape variety in South Africa. Chenin Blanc was one of the top exported South African wines according to 2018 official export statistics. It was also the the only varietal of exported South African bottled wines which showed a growing market share in 2018.
The first #DrinkChenin Day was celebrated on 12 June 2014 in New York and 10 other cities across the USA. This campaign was the brainchild of a group of USA retailers and sommeliers. The Chenin Blanc Association of South Africa joined the campaign in 2016. It has since expanded to an international celebration of Chenin Blanc.
Wines of South Africa (WOSA) also actively supports the campaign by facilitating special Chenin tastings and activities all over the globe. This year, WOSA Hong Kong is offering two #DrinkChenin events to celebrate this spectacular South African export.
#DrinkChenin Event – Friday, 19 June
Come discover this beloved South African wine and its many faces on #DrinkChenin Day from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Baked. This hole-in-the-wall joint in SoHo serves probably the best sourdough in town. It is made passionately by its South African owner/chef. Enjoy a bit of hospitality from home and celebrate #DrinkChenin Day the South African way!

This #DrinkChenin Day event hosted by Blend & Grind will bring together 17 Chenin Blancs from countries all over the world including South Africa, France, New Zealand and the US.
