The National Theatre of Great Britain’s Tony Award®-winning production of War Horse is coming to Hong Kong’s Lyric Theatre this month. We are proud to announce that the beautiful, life-sized puppets have been created by none other than the South African Handspring Puppet Company.
The show is based on the beloved novel by Michael Morpurgo and has been hailed by Time Magazine as ‘a landmark theatre event’. This powerfully moving and imaginative drama is filled with stirring music and songs, and is a show of phenomenal inventiveness. At its heart are astonishing life-sized puppets. These puppets bring breathing, galloping, charging horses to life on stage – an unforgettable theatrical experience, ‘not to be missed.’ (Chicago Tribune)
At the outbreak of World War One, Joey, young Albert’s beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry. He is shipped from England to France. Joey is soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary journey where he serves on both sides before finding himself alone in no man’s land. However, Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and bring him home.
